Select® 2 EC Herbicide Receives New Label with Increased Use Rates for Applications on Canola, Flax and Mustard Seed

Valent U.S.A. Corporation.

Walnut Creek, CA. (April 14, 2004) - Select® 2 EC Herbicide has been granted a new label by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) that allows a shorter pre-harvest interval (PHI) for canola and flax, as well as increased maximum use rates for canola, flax and mustard seed.

The major changes for canola include:

  • Reduced PHI from 75 to 70 days

  • Increased maximum use rate per application from 5 to 6 fluid ounces per acre

  • Increased maximum use rate per season from 5 to 16 fluid ounces per acre

The major changes for flax include:

  • Reduced PHI from 75 to 60 days

  • Increased maximum use rate per application from 4 to 8 fluid ounces per acre

  • Increased maximum use rate per season from 5 to 16 fluid ounces per acre

The major changes for mustard seed include:

  • Increased maximum use rate per application from 5 to 6 fluid ounces per acre

  • Increased maximum use rate per season from 5 to 16 fluid ounces per acre

Valent product development manager John Pawlak said the new label gives growers a more effective way to control grassy weeds.

“The higher use rates give growers the ability to control larger grasses,” Pawlak said. “Flax and canola growers will also like having a wider window to make their Select applications.”

Pawlak said another benefit to the new label is that it includes the tank mixes that were previously covered under various 2ee labels.

“Growers no longer need to carry the 2ee labels with them,” he said. “This means a lot less paperwork to keep up with.”
